Enfield No.1 MKI Cutaway .303 British

This is a sectioned instructional Enfield: a No.1 Mark I in .303 British, serial number 1448, cut away to expose the working parts. The sectioning was done at Enfield Lock in north London. Blue finish remains at 93 to 95 percent, and the right side of the stock carries the Enfield cartouche with the numeral III, which marks it as a Grade 3 rifle. The No.1 Mark I is the first model in the SMLE line.

Cutaways of this type are deactivated, non-firing pieces with drilled barrels, so this one is a display and reference item rather than a shooter. It is listed as used, and the supplier calls early examples very scarce. It belongs on the bench or in the case of a Montana collector of British service rifles who wants to show how the SMLE bolt, magazine and lockwork fit together, or of anyone who teaches the mechanics of the bolt-action rifle.
