This is a German Model 1871 carbine that was converted at arsenal level by the French to the 6.5 Daudeteau cartridge for Uruguayan service. The supplier calls it rare, and guns in this chambering do not turn up often. It is listed as used and sits in the antique long gun category. The listing gives no barrel length, serial number or finish notes, so ask for photos and a condition report before you commit.
Treat it as a collector's carbine. Montana FWP sets no caliber or magazine limit for game animals, so there is no rule against a 6.5 Daudeteau in the Oct. 24 to Nov. 29 general deer and elk season, but a scarce military conversion in an uncommon cartridge belongs on the rack, not in the elk timber. If it does go out, the firearm hunter carrying it needs 400 square inches of hunter orange above the waist like everyone else.
