A Winchester Model 1873 in .32-20, made in 1890 and fitted with an extra-long 32-inch barrel, a length that rarely turns up on this model. The magazine is secured by double hangers. The gun keeps very good original blue, and a factory letter comes with it. Those three things together, the year, the barrel and the letter, are what set this rifle apart from a typical 1873.
This is a documented, high-condition rifle for a Winchester collector, and the factory letter is a large part of what makes it desirable. In Montana, where FWP sets no caliber limit for game animals, nothing in the regulations stops a .32-20 going afield in the Oct. 24 to Nov. 29 general season, but an original-blue 1890 Winchester with a scarce barrel length is a gun to preserve, not one to drag through the deer woods. Keep it as the centerpiece of the rack.
