A Winchester Model 1892 saddle ring carbine in .32-20, produced in 1911 and offered used. The bore keeps strong rifling but shows pitting, and the metal was refinished a long time ago rather than left in factory finish. The receiver has been given checker-pattern engraving by a later hand, which sets it apart from a standard carbine. The action works properly, and the supplier grades the gun good overall.
Montana FWP sets no caliber limit for game animals, but the .32-20 is best thought of here as a collector's and recreational carbine: an early-1900s Winchester with the short barrel and saddle ring that were built for horseback and brush, and still an easy gun to carry across ranch country or shoot at the range. The older refinish and the engraved receiver mean it is a shooter-grade piece rather than an untouched original, which is exactly what makes it a gun to use.
