A 1970s Winchester Model 190, the tube-fed semi-automatic .22 that handles Short, Long and Long Rifle. The 21-inch round barrel is blued and carries iron sights, while the black alloy receiver is dovetailed for a scope and has a crossbolt safety. Walnut stock and forend keep the original butt plate. Overall condition is very good and the bore is excellent.
This is the sort of rifle that teaches someone to shoot and then stays in the family. It is not a rifle for Montana's Oct. 24 to Nov. 29 deer and elk season; its place is plinking, small targets and introducing new shooters, with the receiver dovetail ready for a rimfire scope when the iron sights are outgrown. The tube magazine and semi-auto action mean a full afternoon without much reloading, and the crossbolt safety is simple to explain to a beginner.
