A round iron tsuba with a design of flowers and leaves, signed Bushu Ju Masa Nori Saku. It measures 2 13/16 inches, or 7.2 centimeters, in vertical height and comes boxed. The guard is sold used.

The signature reads as a maker resident in Bushu, and a signed, boxed iron guard with a floral subject is an easy piece to place in a collection. Check the stated height against the sword you intend to mount it on if a remount is the plan; otherwise it stands on its own in a tsuba box or display. For a Montana collector of Japanese fittings this is a documented example with a legible signature, a stated dimension and its own box, which covers the three things most buyers ask about first. Keep the iron dry and leave the surface alone.
