A Remington Sportsman-58 semi-automatic in 12 gauge, dated to 1961 by its serial number, with a 2 3/4-inch chamber. The barrel has been cut back to 22 inches at some point, which turns a field gun into a short, handy one. Metal is blued, the receiver is engraved, and the checkered walnut stock has a grip cap and a 14-inch length of pull to the factory plate.
Honest wear is part of this gun: the bluing has faded to an even patina with some edge wear, and the wood carries handling marks and a few dents, but the bore is excellent. The short barrel suits a truck or cabin shotgun, and with slugs or 0/00 buckshot it is a lawful deer and elk gun in Montana, including in weapons restriction areas limited to shotguns, muzzleloaders or traditional handguns. The 2026 general season runs Oct. 24 to Nov. 29.
