A Browning Maxus semi-automatic in 12 gauge, made around 2009, with a 28-inch vent rib barrel, a screw-in choke and a camo finish over the whole gun. Length of pull is 14 inches. This is the field version of the Maxus, set up for carrying rather than for the clays line. The bore is in excellent condition and the gun rates very good overall.

In Montana the Maxus does double duty. During the Oct. 24 to Nov. 29 general season a 12 gauge with slugs or 0/00 buckshot is a lawful deer and elk gun, and in weapons restriction areas limited to shotguns, muzzleloaders or traditional handguns it may be the gun you have to use. The camo finish fits the rest of the year's field work, and the 28-inch barrel with a single screw-in choke handles that without fuss. Firearm hunters wear 400 square inches of hunter orange above the waist.
